My best guess for that disparity would be that since the GBA port features the PotFS as being restricted by crossplayーwith accessibility being locked behind a completion of FSーthat the SNES version is the more convenient choice for virtual console marketing, which would make sense as having a dungeon with no way to access it is naturally bad productivity. At the very least from a marketing perspective, its largely clear that Nintendo caters to the SNES version with multiple virtual console re-releases over the GBA port, where conversely LADX was favored over the original for the 3DS. I think it is a bit relatively inconclusive if the GBA ALttP version is the definitive canonical version. What are your thoughts? I'm open to any takes. It may be possible to still work it in as a downfall timeline post-OoT event, although I haven't really thought that one through. What exactly it means to your interpretation of the timeline is up to you, but I think it is another thing that makes TMC->FS->FSA->ALTTP a plausible interpretation. Given everything then, I think it's consistent with other examples that ALTTP GBA is the current canon version including the Four Sword-related content that was added including the Palace of the Four Sword and the inclusion of the Four Sword itself. Technically, that renders all the new content from all of those games as new additions to the canon. Something I noticed on the timeline (which I consider probably the best source for the modern version of the HH/ZE timeline) is OoT3D, MM3D, TPHD, and WWHD are referenced instead of their original versions.

And likewise, Link's Awakening on the Switch replaced Link's Awakening DX (which replaced Link's Awakening), meaning there really isn't a reason the GBA version of A Link to the Past shouldn't be canon either.Ī reason I think to be apprehensive about it is that it implies something different than the HH/ZE timelines because of the inclusion of the Four Sword stuff implying FSA comes prior. In the case of like Ocarina of Time 3D and Majora's Mask 3D, those are typically understood (with some exceptions for things like preference) to be canon replacements for the original N64 versions. Was discussing this with some other folks and it started with me assuming the SNES version was the canon one (which one actually happened in the main timeline), but after talking about it a bit it started to seem like the GBA version ought to be considered the canon version.
